With a strong dedication to promoting reconciliation and safeguarding culture, history, and traditions, our Inaugural Powwow has the potential to make a positive impact on our community.

By organizing the first powwow in decades, our goal is to unify the community and create meaningful change for both current and future generations.

In February 2024, Whitecap Leadership formed a powwow committee to plan and coordinate a three-day celebration in the Community scheduled for September 13-15, 2024. This event holds significant importance for our community as it represents an effort to reintroduce our culture, ceremonies, history, and traditions to our youth, teenagers, and their families.

Recently, museums in Vancouver and Toronto reached out to us regarding the sacred pipes of Chief Whitecap, seeking to return them to their rightful place. This gathering will not only mark the homecoming of the sacred pipes but also commemorate a crucial milestone in our nation's history – our first anniversary as a self-governing nation. On September 1, 2023, Whitecap Dakota Nation was officially recognized as the first self-governing nation in Saskatchewan.
